Attendance calculator: days and minutes into pay

Payroll in Pakistan starts from the attendance sheet, not the salary structure. Absent days, LWP, half-days, late minutes and authorised overtime each have a rate. This page uses the same daily-rate and hourly-rate arithmetic StreamHCM applies when it builds a payslip.

Attendance to pay

Daily rate = gross ÷ working days (26 is the figure Pakistani labour practice uses for a legal daily wage).

StreamHCM uses the employee roster; 26 is the legal default.

Pakistan labour practice: deduct actual time lost, not a blanket day for 3 lates.

Factories Act: twice the ordinary rate is the usual floor.

Salary is deducted for time away. It is not rebuilt from present days

A habit that still shows up on factory sheets is: gross ÷ calendar days × days present. Months with 31 days then pay more than February for the same attendance. Practitioners walking through the Payment of Wages Act put it the other way around: start from gross, deduct only for the period the person was required to work and was not there. The legal daily wage used for that deduction is commonly gross ÷ 26.

StreamHCM follows that shape. Working days default to the roster (weekends and rest days already out). Absent days and LWP are charged at daily rate. A mid-month joiner is prorated on employment days, not asked to “earn” a full month from present punches.

Late coming: minutes, not folklore

“Three lates equal one day” is written into more standing orders than the statute supports. The Payment of Wages framework caps an absence deduction at the proportion of time actually lost. On a Rs. 52,000 gross, 26-day month, the daily rate is Rs. 2,000 and the hourly rate (8 hours) is Rs. 250. Three days late by 20 minutes is one hour (Rs. 250), not a full day. Grace minutes configured on the attendance policy come off before that conversion; StreamHCM can also switch a late rule into slabs (warning / fixed / hours / half day / full day) when a company insists on tiers.

Overtime is a bonus line, and only if it was authorised

Section 47 of the Factories Act and the 1969 Shops Ordinance put ordinary overtime at twice the regular rate once the day crosses 9 hours or the week crosses 48. The hourly rate is usually taken from gross including regular allowances, not basic alone. StreamHCM does not pay attendanceLog.overtimeHours raw: it pays OvertimeEntry rows that are authorised (or auto-authorised by policy), with weekend / holiday / night multipliers frozen at approval so a later policy edit cannot reprice a day already signed off.

Half-days are a separate rule. A 0.5 day count deducts half the daily rate unless the company maps a custom attendance type (short leave at 0.75, and so on). Holiday work and rest-day work are bonuses, not “present” days, so they do not cancel an absence elsewhere in the month.

Attendance is only half the payslip. Put the deductions next to tax and EOBI on the payroll calculator, or isolate them on the deductions calculator.

FAQ

Attendance pay questions

Labour practice used for deductions and leave encashment treats a month as 26 working days. Daily rate = gross monthly salary ÷ 26. StreamHCM can instead divide by the employee’s rostered workdays for that period when a shift calendar exists.

Payment of Wages rules limit a deduction for absence to the proportion of time actually lost. A blanket “3 lates = 1 day” cut is the common shop-floor shortcut, and it is the one labour practitioners keep warning against. This calculator charges minutes after grace, converted at the hourly rate.

Factories Act 1934 and the Shops and Establishments Ordinance: work beyond 9 hours a day or 48 hours a week is overtime, ordinarily at twice the regular rate. StreamHCM pays only authorised overtime entries, not raw punch hours, so an unapproved extra hour does not hit the payslip.

Absence is an unmarked working day. LWP is approved unpaid leave. StreamHCM charges them on different rules so the same day is never deducted twice.

Attendance that already knows payroll

StreamHCM’s 300+ attendance rules (grace, half-day, holiday work, fake-GPS) write the day totals payroll reads. No second spreadsheet.
